68th Independence Day was celebrated with all pomp and splendor at V.O.C College of Education in Thoothukudi. The day began with a salute to those who build the Nation. The Principal, Dr.V.Thamodharan, welcomed the gathering which included the chief guest, the academic & non academic staff and student teachers - the architects of the future India. The event gained great significance this year, since the chief guest Mr.R. Jegathesan was the former Physical Director of the same college. He has rendered more than 25 years of yeoman service to the institution.
The chief guest unfurled the Tricolor and gave away the Independence Day message which was coated with wisdom and brevity. While talking of the unity prevailing in the college, he articulated the need for unity among the student teachers also. He stressed the democratic nature of the college and also remarked that the college is for the welfare of the student teachers and asked them to utilize the opportunity to the extent possible. The programme also included messages from the Gita, the Quran, and the Bible which were read by the student teachers. The Thirukkural and thought for the day were also spiced with Independence Day flavor.
The great moment came to an end with vote of thanks, National Anthem and the distribution of sweets.
