National Seminar on "RECENT ADVANCES IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION: IMPLICATIONS AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS" 19.03.2015 and 20.03.2015

The Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on 22 December 1887 and died on 26 April 1920. It was in recognition of his contribution to mathematics the Government of India decided to celebrate Ramanujan's birthday as the National Mathematics Day every year and to celebrate 2012 as the National Mathematical Year. Due to celebrate the Mathematical Day our college will organise this Seminar. Mathematics is a well structured Language for expressing scientific concepts. Looking down through ages, Mathematics has had a pivotal role in scientific, technical and industrial advancements. Mathematics is a queen of all sciences. There is a consensus in the literature that mathematical ability contributes to students' success in tertiary education. Mathematics now dominates almost every field of one's activities. In this age of science and Technology, it has permeated through the human life in such a way that, it has now become every man's everyday concern. Mathematics disciplines the mind, systematizes one's thought and reasoning. The subject has also rich potentialities of affording true enjoyment to its students. Mathematics is an important subject in school curriculum. It is more closely related to one's daily life as compared to other subjects. Except one's mother tongue there is no other subject which is more closely related to one's daily life as mathematics. Overhauling the entire teaching learning process of mathematics is the need of the hour with the new vision for mathematics. The importance of mathematics has never been greater than now and for the foreseeable future. Mathematical skills are crucial for a wide array of analytical, technological, scientific, security and economic applications. Students to become adept users of mathematics and to appreciate its usefulness are of paramount importance for the future. It is the need of the hour to propagate the highness of Mathematics and also methods of teaching Mathematics. It is our bonded duty as the teachers Educators the significance of recent development of Mathematics. So we are organising National Seminar on "Recent Advances in Mathematics Education". This seminar is planned as a consultation process to provide a forum for discussion and collaboration among the participants throughout the Nation.

Participants: The seminar is open for Teacher Educators, Research Scholars, Mathematics prospective teachers and those who are interested in Mathematics of teacher-education.

Call for Abstracts and Papers: Two hard copies of the abstract and full-length paper should reach on or before 31st January 2015. The papers must be written in English. It must be computer printed in 12 pt font of Times New Roman in MS-Word format and must not exceed four pages. The selected papers will be published with ISBN No.
The co-authors have to pay registration fee separately. The delegate fee and the papers (both soft and hard copy) are to be sent to the organizing secretary. Paper presentation is not a must for attending seminar.

Registration and Payment: The participants are requested to send the filled in registration form on or before 31st January 2015. The Fee has to be paid in the form of DD drawn in favour of V.O.C. College of Education, payable at Indian Bank, Millerpuram Branch, Thoothukudi – 8. Tamil Nadu.

Delegate Fee: Rs. 500/- per participant, which is for kit, working lunch and tea on the seminar days. The delegates are requested to make their own arrangements for stay.

To reach the college: The college is situated at Thoothukudi-Tirunelveli Main road. It can be reached by bus from Thoothukudi bus stand and by auto from railway station.
